WHAT: Spring Nature Outing #5 — Duranceau Park
WHEN: Wednesday, 5/2 — 10:00a-1:00p
WHERE: 3200 Indian Village Rd., Columbus
MEETING LOCATION: Follow signs and parking for McKnight Outdoor Education Center
WEATHER: As of this update, the temperature is supposed to be in the upper 60s to upper 70s with a slight chance (20%) of rain near the end of our time together.
BRING: Any nature observation tools (net, magnifying glass, hiking stick, binoculars, etc.), nature journaling supplies, flashlight, close-toed shoes, and a packed lunch! Some families bring an extra change of clothes (just in case) to our Nature Outings!
DETAILS: Did you know there are caves in Hilliard! Let’s make our way through a dried-up creek bed and check out the small caves within the rock walls. This will require climbing and a good amount of adult supervision (and brave mamas!), but the caves are worth the effort and attention. Please wear closed-toe shoes as the terrain is entirely rocky. Also, bring flashlights so your kids can see once in the caves. There is also a wooded trail connected to the creek bed for more natural play.
"There's no such thing as bad weather...risk-taking during play 'helps children test their physical limits, develop their perceptual-motor capacity, and learn to avoid and adjust to dangerous environments and activities.' Simply put: allowing some risky play actually makes children safer and less prone to injury."
POLICY REMINDER: Families must stay together — parents are responsible for their own their children at all times. Thanks in advance for understanding.
RSVP: This is very important! We need to know exactly who is coming so we are sure to not leave anyone behind or spend time waiting for a family that isn't coming! PLEASE send a quick email to firstname.lastname@example.org or respond to the Facebook event and let us know if your family is planning on coming!
