Our group started back in September 2017 and has quickly grown to around 90 families with kids ranging from younger baby siblings all the way to homeschool graduates — although the majority of our children are in the 5-12-year-old range!
Our heartbeat centers on nature, literature, and friendships! Currently, we meet on the first and third Wednesday's of each month (mornings) for nature explorations around Central Ohio. We dedicate time to nature journaling and researching our discoveries after we hike the trails and explore each area. And we wrap up each Nature Outing with plenty of free play and time for lunch to give our families the space to build relationships! We also host monthly Mama Gatherings on the second Wednesday of each month (evenings) at a local coffee shop that has opened their doors to us after hours — we spend this time discussing the victories and challenges of the homeschooling journey, sharing resources and ideas, and filling up on good drinks and great encouragement.
Quarterly, we work through a common read-aloud for our family book club! At the end of each session, we gather for a book club celebration with themed food and activities and many families dress up as their favorite character from that season's selection! We cap everything off with a book discussion and let our kids chat through their favorite parts, imagine themselves as the main characters, and answer a few questions about the reading! We also have two special traditions for our group — a handicraft market for kids to create and sell their own special treasures and family campout weekends!
